It is important to know different varieties and their adaptation ability to particular conditions in order to obtain good productive results. Besides this, the election of a variety is an essential measure to face some diseases, since each variety has a different behaviour. Moreover, this measure is not only interesting for the control of diseases but also for pests.
Implementation of this measure in LIFE AGROintegra project:
Some of the experiences carried out in LIFE AGROintegra project have analysed the effect of the tolerance/resistance of varieties to certain diseases.
On one hand, a trial for the control of yellow rust has been done. In this trial, besides analysing distinct strategies for the control of the disease, the different behaviour of some varieties has been studied with very interesting results. On the other hand, in real scale demonstrations, which have been carried out in arable crops (wheat and barley), different varieties have been analysed in order to study their behaviour, not only in the face of diseases, but also in the face of pests and weeds. Finally, during the last campaign of the project, due to the problems with yellow rust in the previous years, Camargo variety has been replaced by two other varieties that are less sensible to the disease (Marcopolo and Chambo) in the experimental farm of Ilundain.
